Mozart concert in Dreischor

25 Nov 2018

With immense pleasure have I sung my first mass in c minor by Mozart. With Florilegium Musicum, an orchestra playing on period instruments. This mass has the most beautiful music but I must admit: I was a little nervous about the technically highly difficult aria 'Et incarnatus est'.

About 10 years ago when I studied with world renowned soprano Edith Wiens in Salzburg, we were told this aria was the most difficult one there was and we should stay away from it as long as possible, haha! But I am so happy to sing it now: it is heaven!! Here you can see how the rehearsal went:

MAURITS FESTIVAL

04 Sep 2017

Together with colleague (Bassoon player Tamara Smits) I started a new chamber music festival called Maurits Festival!

We both encountered numerous colleagues who happened to be from the same town as us: Geleen. And all of them regretted that they hardly ever played or sang there. So we thought: why not organise this ourselves? It started out with just one concert but slowly it grew into a whole festival!

The festival will take place the 21st until the 24th of September in and around Geleen. Multiple concerts, a workshop and I will even give a lecture about my exciting life as a singer!

For more information check out the website.

OUR GREATEST PRODUCTION...

13 Oct 2016

After all that we have produced on stage, this year my husband (tenor Jan-Willem Schaafsma) and I enjoyed our greatest production so far: the birth of our beautiful daughter Kiki!

Everyone is in good health and I will be back to work immediately to sing first Flowermaiden in Wagners Parsifal at the Dutch National Opera! The show must go on... :)

NOMINATED FOR THE GRACHTENFESTIVAL PRIZE 2015!!!

13 Apr 2014

This is such great news! I feel completely honoured to be nominated for this award. You can't enter this competition yourself but you have to be nominated by the festival and after that a jury of music critics of the biggest newspapers in The Netherlands pick 5 young musicians who they believe will have a bright (international) carreer ahead of them....

The jury will come and see us, nominees perform and we will present ourselves to the audience on wednesday August 19th. This presentation and the award ceremony will be broadcasted live on Dutch television and radio.

Again, I feel very honoured and even if I don't win, I see the nomination as a reward for all the hard work I have put in the last few years!

OPENING CONCERT CHURCH MUSIC FESTIVAL OSLO WITH CAPRICCIO STRAVAGANTE

14 Mar 2014

Two weeks ago I performed Campra's 'l'Europe Galante' with the wonderful orchestra Capriccio Stravagante in Oslo. My first experience with French Baroque music and I'm still very much overwelmed with it's effect on me. I knew the music before but because of the beauty of this orchestra I fell completely in love with the music of Campra, Lully, Rameau, Lambert and others. And I thought I would just share this with you. It's a recording of the orchestra under the baton of the marvelous Skip Sempé, not of me.... :)

REMEMBRANCE CONCERT FLIGHT MH17

What a day! Yesterday was a day full of emotions and sadness but also a lot of love and support. I am so grateful I could play a little part in the remembrance ceremony that took place yesterday for the victims of the tragic planecrash of the MH17.

It was hard to sing for so many sad people struggling with the loss of their loved ones but it made me very humble and whole at the same time. I think we all felt the power of music very well yesterday!

The event was beautifully organized with a lot of care and consideration, so thank you to all those who worked hard to make this day so very special. And thank you in particular to those brave familymembers who touched our hearts with their personal stories.

I wish all the survivors of the victims of the MH17 a lot of strength and love and:

Pie Jesu, dona eis requiem aeternam...Give them eternal rest.

FINALIST STENHAMMAR COMPETITION

Last week Maartje was a finalist of the Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition in Sweden. Despite of an unfortunate illness she sang Verdi’s 1st act aria of La Traviata and ‘Ach ich Liebte’ from Die Entführung aus dem Serail by Mozart with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra lead by Maestro Nader Abbassi.

In the paper her performance was mentioned as a highlight: “The soprano Maartje Rammeloo from the Netherlands had both an elegant slender and lyrical voice in the Mozart aria, but also demonstrated  strength and lots of expression in Verdi’s La Traviata. Excellent.”
